At our September 26th, 2014 meeting Bennett Vadnais will demonstrate a landscape in acrylic.
Bennett studied classical drawing and painting at the Bougie Studio, MN, the Water Street Atelier, NY, and the Art Students League of New York. He has won two of the most prestigious awards that the Art Students League of New York grants its members: the McDowell Travel Grant and the Xavier Gonzalez Travel Grant. Vadnais has done landscape workshops around Long Island and New York City, and currently teaches painting and drawing at the Teaching Studios of Art in Brooklyn and Oyster Bay. Vadnais has exhibited at prestigious galleries across the United States and Europe. Jane McGraw-Teubner will demonstrate a pastel landscape Friday May 24th
We are honored to have as our guest demonstrator Jane McGraw-Teubner, a Master Pastelist and member of the Pastel Society of America. She is a Resident Artist in the Salmagundi Art Club and a founding member of the Long Island Plein Air Painters’ Society.
Jane studied with well known pastel artists Jeff Webb, Frank Federico, Albert Handel, Larry Blovits, Richard McKinley, Elizabeth Mowry and at the Art Students League with Richard Pionk and local pastel artists at the Art League of Long Island.
Jane has won numerous awards at local and national juried shows. The most recent being Third Prize At Easton Plein Air Quick Draw Competition in July 2012. In September, 2009, she won her third award at the Pastel Society of America’s Annual National Show and received the status of Master Pastelist. She was accepted into the 8th, 10th, 11th and 12th Annual Catharine Lorillard Wolfe Juried National Shows where she received the highest award – the 2007 Gold Medal of Honor for Pastels/Drawing. Other recent awards: at the Salmagundi Art Club Combined Show 2007, the Mortimer Freehof Award for Pastel, the Bruce Crane Award at the Salmagundi Art Club Spring Auction 2008, Art Spirit Silver Medal Award at the Salmagundi Art Club Annual Members Show, NYC, and at the Pastel Society of America’s National Juried Show in 2005 – the Salmagundi Award for her pastel “Pebbles and Beach Grass”.
Denis Ponsot will demonstrate painting New York City’s Skyline in watercolor Friday January 27th
DENIS PONSOT is an artist with over 35 years of experience in the field. Currently, he teaches classes in Watercolor painting at the Art League of Long Island, The School of Visual Arts and the Jewish Community Center in Manhattan. Denis also teaches classes in Watercolor and Oil Painting at the Gurwin Jewish Assistive Living Residences. During the school year, Denis teaches classes for all ages out of his private studio in Queens, NY. Come summertime, his studio transforms into Denis Ponsot Fine Arts Summer Camp, where students gain experience in every medium from sculpture to collage.
Denis’ work has been featured most recently in exhibitions at the Art League of Long Island Members Exhibition in 2008 and the Salmagundi Art Club non-member Juried Exhibition in 2004.
Judith Sutton-Fagan will demonstrate in Sumi-e Ink Painting Friday October 18th
The demonstration begins at 7:30 after meeting announcements.
Love of nature is the influence that brings Fagan to her personal spiritual reflection of harmony and balance. Harmony and balance are well known concepts for artists working in any medium, yet Sumi-e is Fagan’s training and tradition. Working under Sungsook Setton, an internationally studied and renowned Master of Sumi-e, Fagan learned her craft. The National Juried Exhibition of the Sumi-e Society of America, Inc. has accepted Judith Sutton-Fagan’s water and inkworks. She is currently the Education Chairperson for the National Sumi-e Society of America.
Judith will be giving a one day workshop at the Art League on Sunday November 3rd. Come to the demonstration and be sure to sign up for the workshop. Balance and harmony will enhance all our artwork.
Donna Harlow Mofat will demonstrate in pastel, Friday September 27th
Donna works in Pastel, Watercolor, Acrylic, Oils and Black & White Media (including Scrimshaw). As a prize-winning member of art leagues and groups on Long Island, her work has been accepted for exhibition at numerous venues and she has had solo shows in practically all the Libraries on Long Island. She is frequently invited to demonstrate her technique and conduct special workshops at various art organizations across the country.
Donna is a Signature Member of The Pastel Society of America and a Charter Member and President/Coordinator of The Long Island Professional Artists Showcase. This group produces the very popular Seven & Seven shows. She is a member of the faculty at ALLI and a longtime member of the Phoenix Fine Art Gallery in Bellport, NY.
